The Fast
Fasting methods
According to each person's abilities, commitment, and wishes, we will each embark in some variation of the following fast:
Refrain from eating food or drinking calorie-containing beverages
Refrain from drinking any beverages aside from water
Refrain from purchasing anything for the duration of the fast (or at least refrain from luxury purchases and purchases from large polluting corporations)
Refrain from engaging in our individual addictive behaviors, whether that be phone usage, substance use, the need to be "productive", or any of the many faces of addiction and distraction from discomfort
Minimize the consumption of hydrocarbon-based energy and other pollution generation
Strengthen our connection to all parts of ourselves, to our community, and to Pacha Mama (Mother Earth)
Donate the resources we are refraining from consuming to foster the cultivation and dissemination of indigenous wisdom
Fasting timelines
We recommend starting the fast on Wednesday evening, if you wish to replace the feasting tradition with a fasting tradition, or Thursday evening, if you feel more called to a feast-then-fast tradition. We also recommend committing to one of the following:
A 24 hour fast (Wednesday evening through Thursday, or Thursday evening through Friday)
A 48 hour fast (Wednesday evening through Friday, or Thursday evening through Saturday)
A 72 hour fast (Wednesday evening through Saturday, or Thursday evening through Sunday)
A 100 hour fast (Wednesday afternoon through Sunday evening)
A longer fast if it speaks to you, and you have done the appropriate medical research
